Tuberculosis (TB) is a serious infectious disease that primarily affects the lungs but can spread to other organs. It is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which spreads through airborne droplets when infected individuals cough or sneeze. The QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus blood test is the most important test for detecting TB infection because it measures your immune system's response to TB antigens.
Tuberculosis is caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which spreads through the air when someone with active TB disease coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. When you breathe in these bacteria, they can settle in your lungs and begin to grow, eventually spreading to other parts of your body through your bloodstream. Not everyone infected with TB bacteria becomes sick, as your immune system can often wall off the bacteria, resulting in latent TB infection without symptoms.
The QuantiFERON-TB Gold Plus is the most important blood test for TB because it detects whether your immune system has been exposed to Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria. This test measures your immune response to specific TB antigens and is particularly useful for people who have received the BCG vaccine, have difficulty returning for skin test readings, or have conditions that may affect skin test results. Unlike traditional skin tests, the QuantiFERON test requires only one blood draw and provides results within 24 hours. While a positive test indicates TB infection, additional tests like chest X-rays and sputum cultures are needed to determine if you have latent or active tuberculosis disease.
You should get tested if you have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with active TB disease, work in healthcare or high-risk settings like prisons or homeless shelters, have traveled to or lived in countries with high TB rates, or have a weakened immune system from conditions like HIV or diabetes. Testing is also recommended if you experience persistent cough lasting more than three weeks, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, fever, or coughing up blood. Early detection is crucial because TB can be effectively treated when caught early, and testing helps prevent spread to others.
What this means
Your testosterone levels are slightly below the optimal range. While this is not necessarily cause for concern, it may contribute to occasional fatigue, reduced motivation, or lower muscle mass over time.
Recommended actions
Increase resistance or strength training
Prioritize 7–8 hours of quality sleep per night, try to reduce stress
Include more zinc- and magnesium-rich foods (like shellfish, beef, pumpkin seeds, spinach)
Consider retesting in 3–6 months
Not overhyped or overpriced. Just comprehensive blood testing made simple and for everyone.
